Nokia camera app gets telephoto and wide-angle support ahead of Nokia 9 launch

The Oreo beta for the Nokia 5 brought a new version of Nokia’s camera app – with surprising (and hidden) new features. The camera now supports dual cameras of both the telephoto and wide-angle kind.

The app specifically shows 2x telephoto zoom, which is the standard for phones right now. The Nokia 5 can’t make use of it of course, even HMD’s only dual camera phone – the Nokia 8 – has a identical field of view on its two cameras. But this app shows what could come in the future.

So far no phone on the market does both telephoto and wide-angle. We’ve already heard the first murmurs of phones with three cameras but chances are that HMD is just considering two separate models. All Nokia 9 rumors so far point to a two-camera solution.

There’s another less exciting change to the camera app – you can now manually select Shutter speed and ISO on the Nokia 5. Values go between 1/500s and 1s for the shutter and 100 to 2,000 for ISO

Intel's extra-fast 3D storage comes to your desktop PC

It didn't take long for Intel's 3D Optane storage to reach a product you can realistically buy. The chip maker has introduced Optane modules designed to boost the performance of your desktop PC. They're strictly cache drives that only hold 16GB or 32GB (the server module packs 375GB), but don't let that dismay you. In theory, the combination of extremely low latency (under 10 microseconds) with solid state drive speeds (at least 900MB/s in peak sequential reads) should dramatically reduce loading times across the board. First extended trial of driverless shuttle bus to be tested in London

The first extended public trial of a driverless shuttle bus is being carried out in London.As part of the trial, about 100 people will travel in a prototype shuttle on a route in Greenwich over the next three weeks. The computer-controlled vehicle travels just over 16 kilometres per hour. It can seat four people and has no steering wheel or brake pedal.However, there will be a trained person on board who can stop the shuttle if required during the tests.
